Maria is an attorney with over 16 years of litigation experience and focuses her practice on employment law as well as business litigation.
Maria’s litigation and trial work encompasses all aspects of employment-related claims, including whistleblower retaliation, discrimination, harassment and wrongful termination. She has represented numerous employees against both private and public entities. She has successfully represented numerous employees in administrative actions including California Employment Development Department (EDD) appeals, as well as State Personnel Board (SPB) actions.
Maria’s practice also includes representing businesses, including small and large entities, medical centers and agricultural businesses. She provides advice and counseling pertaining to employment practices, contracts and human resource policies and procedures.
Maria also has extensive litigation experience in the health care industry with a focus on improvement of health care in acute and long-term care facilities. As a member of the Legislative Committee with the California Employment Lawyers Association, in 2015 she assisted in authoring AB 474 with California Assembly Member Brown intended to modify Health and Safety Code section 1432 to strengthen the protections for patients and health care workers from retaliation for complaints pertaining to patient care.
